Privacy policy

BillsClear works without an account or a bank connection, and your bills stay on your phone. This page lists everything that leaves it, and why.

Effective September 28, 2026

What stays on your phone

  • Stored only on your device: your pay schedule (and a second one, if you have Pro), your bills (name, amount, currency, due date and how often it repeats), which bills you’ve marked paid, your display currency, any exchange rates you’ve pinned, your reminder settings, and the most recent exchange-rate table the app downloaded.
  • Our servers: we don’t run any servers that receive your bill or pay data. There’s no bank link (no Plaid, no bank login) and no account.
  • Deleting the app: deleting BillsClear deletes all of this data.
  • Bill history export (Pro): when you tap Export bill history, BillsClear builds a CSV file on your phone and opens your phone’s share sheet. The file only goes where you choose to send it. Nothing is uploaded by us.

What leaves your phone, and why

When
At most once a day, when you open the app and its saved rates are missing or more than a day old
Sent to
open.er-api.com, run by ExchangeRate-API
What is sent
A request for that day’s US-dollar exchange-rate table. It’s identical for every user and contains no bills, amounts, currencies, names or identifiers. Like any internet request, it reveals your device’s IP address to that server.
Why
To convert amounts between currencies
When
You view the paywall, buy BillsClear Pro, or restore a purchase
Sent to
Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), and RevenueCat (revenuecat.com)
What is sent
An anonymous app-user ID generated by RevenueCat, your purchase and subscription status, and device and app version details
Why
To process the subscription and unlock Pro
  • What these services never receive: your pay schedule, bills, amounts, due dates, or paid and unpaid history.
  • Their own policies: ExchangeRate-API, Apple, Google and RevenueCat each handle the data they receive under their own privacy policies.
  • If the request fails: BillsClear keeps using the last rates it saved and shows their date.

Notifications

  • BillsClear uses local notifications: a reminder before a bill is due (6 pm the evening before by default; Pro lets you set a different time for each bill), skipped once the bill is paid, and a summary on payday morning.
  • They’re scheduled on your phone. No push service is involved, and no notification content leaves your phone.
  • BillsClear asks for permission once, after you’ve added your first bill, never at first launch. You can turn reminders off in the app’s Settings (Bill and payday reminders) or in your phone’s settings.

What we don’t do

  • No account or sign-in.
  • No bank connection of any kind.
  • No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
  • No third-party analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools.
  • We don’t sell or share personal data.

BillsClear isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

  • Deleting your data: delete bills in the app, or delete the app.
  • Taking your data with you: BillsClear Pro exports your bill history as a CSV file at any time.
  • Subscriptions: manage or cancel in iOS Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions, or in the Google Play app → Payments & subscriptions.
  • Notifications: turn them off in the app’s Settings or in your phone’s settings.
